Bob Barczak ~ Pickleball Club Outstanding Volunteer Service Award ~ Second Quarter 2018

Bob lived most of his life on the Southside of Chicago, Illinois. He worked at AT&T in Chicago for 30 years as a schematic draftsman, an inside technician and a manager. Bob moved to Denver, Colorado and relocated to Sun City Grand in November, 2003.

A few words from the member who submitted Bob for this award:

  • Bob is selfless, dedicated, confident and patient especially in challenging situations.
  • Over the years Bob has spent countless hours on the Pickleball courts offering “hands-on” training to members on how to play the game and referee training.
  • Bob Loves to play but in lieu of playing, you can see him on the courts helping club members improve their game. With the recent USAPA Pickleball rule changes, Bob has been the “go to” person to clarify how the rule changes impact playing the game. He patiently answered members questions regarding the rule changes and helped every single person who had a question without annoyance or frustration.

Over the last thirteen years, Bob has volunteered hundreds of hours of his time to the Pickleball Club. He has run club training clinics for all levels of play, managed tournament play and acted as a referee for Internal Tournaments. A recent example of Bob’s commitment is the time he spent on the Pick-A-Olympics’ a Club event held here on March 28, 2018. This event would not have run as smoothly or been as successful without Bob’s expertise, referee and management skills.

Bob has been refereeing Pickleball since 2005 and is one of the first five USAPA Certified Referee Evaluators. Achieving USAPA Referee Certification requires completing a referee training course, passing a difficult USAPA referee test, refereeing thirty matches and then being evaluated for three matches by a USAPA certified evaluator.

On behalf of the Pickleball Club and Membership we want you to know that your commitment to the Club over the past thirteen years has not gone unnoticed. Bob, you are just a “down to earth” really nice guy! Please accept this award with our thanks for everything you have done to support the Club.
