SCG Board votes to dedicate Cimarron to Pickleball

What’s in this email?

I am pleased to announce that the SCG Board has approved the proposal to eliminate the 3 Tennis courts at Cimarron and to build 10 Pickleball courts in their place. There has been no time line set yet and our Board will begin working with CAM to figure out all the logistics to get this project completed.

Notification from the election committee and procedure for same-day reservation

1) Election Committee notification received by Pickleball Club
2) Procedure for same day reservations at the courts

1) I have been notified by the Election Committee that an email from a Pickleball Club member is being sent around to other members concerning the upcoming Board elections, doing this is strictly against the election policy for the Board of Directors. I am asking that this email not continue to be sent around to members or non-members because there can be repercussions to the club if it continues with up to and including the removal of the charter club from Association participation. The Board of Directors also has the authority to suspend the club for a set period of time. The policy states: “Neighborhood Representatives and alternates, charter clubs, community and specialty groups, support groups, or interest groups shall not use their email listings or websites to express any opinion regarding any candidate for the Board and shall not campaign inside any community buildings at a sponsored activity to express any opinion regarding candidates for the Board.” Furthermore, the Charted Club Policies and Procedures states: “All lists which are generated for the use of CC and/or the Association shall not be used for non-CC purposes, such as Association elections.” So again I am asking that this email stop immediately because this is only hurting our club.

2) When making same day reservations in writing the only schedule that you can officially sign up for a court will be the one that is posted on the bulletin board. If you want you can also put your name on the one in the breezeway and the Pavilion just to insure that everyone sees you have reserved that particular court. The schedules in the breezeway and the Pavilion are for convenience only, so everyone please check the posted schedule on the bulletin board before taking a court to play on.

News articles about our need for more pickleball courts

1) News articles about our need for more pickleball courts

1) News articles about our need for more pickleball courts.  In an email Jeanne Harteau wrote…

Hello Fellow Pickleball Players:

I have had tremendous positive feedback from the articles I wrote for the Surprise Today newspaper and would like to thank you all for your kind remarks.  I have been asked by some folks that do not receive the newspaper and who were unaware that the articles also appear online to let them know how to access them.  Therefore, I am providing links to all three articles.

The first link is the original article written by reporter, Richard Smith titled “Battle for space pauses in Sun City Grand”; the second is my rebuttal to that article titled “SCG pickleball/tennis space battle “far from over”; and the third link is to my rebuttal piece to an anonymous person (“Venter”) who called into the Vent saying that a million dollars had been spent on pickleball; that article is titled “Venter misses mark with pickleball argument.”

Simply click on the links below and they will take you directly to the articles.  Each click on an article garners more attention on this issue.  Let’s keep this issue alive until it is positively resolved.

Thank you,

Jeanne Harteau

2. Surprise Independent, 7/22/2015, Letter to the Editor by a Club member Page 4
3. Personal Opinions and make your voices heard.
4. Passing of a Club member

1. An article, “Battle for court space pauses in Sun City Grand” was recently published in the Surprise Today. It is available online here. Please read the article carefully, as we feel this decision will eventually impact the entire SCG community as potential home buyers/retiree’s start to look elsewhere. The SCG Board not voting to expand the number of courts may lead us to decreasing the number of beginner lessons the Club provides, if not curtailing them all together as a way of reducing the overcrowding of the courts in peak season.

2. Please read in the Surprise Independent, dated 7/22/2015, a ” letter to the editor” from one of our members titled “Pickleball vote a mistake”. http://surpriseindependent.az.newsmemory.com/. Page 4.

3. We encourage all of you to read theses articles, express your opinions and make your concerns and voices heard.

4. We are sorry to inform you of the passing of Club member Rosemary Zakowski earlier this month. Rosemary is survived by her loving husband and Club member Hubert . Both have been long time members of the Club and we are all saddened by her passing. The Club wants to send its heartfelt condolences to Hubert and his family for their loss.

We hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer and we look forward to re-energizing and re-focusing our efforts in the fall to find an equitable and reasonable solution to the current need for more pickleball courts.

SCG Board votes against courts ~ next steps

What’s in this email

1) Todays vote on Pickleball in SCG
2) Ideas for New Club Events
3) The Gag request is lifted
1) It is with great sadness that I must inform you that today the Board of Directors of Sun City Grand voted down (2-4 , in favor Brooks & Bales, against Such, Jordan, Armstrong & Marden) the Ad Hoc Committees recommendation for expansion of Pickleball at Cimarron. Please watch the meeting on TV22 so you can see for yourself the Kangaroo session.
2) I’m polling all club members for ideas of new Club events to start in October or early November. Let me know your ideas so as a Charter Club we can start to reserve up to 75% of available court times for Club events.
3) The request to refrain club members from talking about Pickleball to Board Members has ended. Please feel free to exercise your Constitutional Rights of Freedom of Speech.
