This is the second of three emails your Board is sending regarding reintroducing APPL league play to our club. Before we send the third email that will ask for your vote we think it wise to raise some points that may affect your vote:
When APPL was first introduced into the club the primary complaint we heard from non-APPL members was that the league required too many courts set aside at prime times and on specific days. Consequently the next year APPL was voted out by the membership. When your Board recently met with APPL Representatives we were assured that they had amended their requirements to accommodate that issue. The days, times and number of courts used is completely under the club’s control. APPL cannot change the days, times or number of courts that the club assigns. APPL works closely with each venue to schedule matches on the days and times designated by the club. With the advent of our new, more sophisticated reservation system we can track and pinpoint times and days when usage is lowest and slot various matches into those days and times.
Any club member interested in competitive pickleball this season, now’s the time to form a team or sign up on the APPL website under “Player Needing a Team.”

The Arizona Pickleball Players League (APPL) is a nonprofit organization offering team-based pickleball leagues across Arizona.
Founded in 2012, it began in the East Valley and has grown into a statewide — and now expanding — phenomenon.

APPL’s mission is to promote competitive, amateur, team-based pickleball.
By 2025, over 5,500 players across 370+ teams were participating statewide.

Teams:6–15 players
Ages:19+, 50+, 65+
Levels:From 2.5 (entry-level) to 5.0+ (advanced)

Matches:Held at local community courts, parks, and private venues
