We’re writing to clarify the current vote regarding the Arizona Pickleball Players League (APPL) and to explain how APPL play will affect court availability.
Quick overview
- Strong member interest in APPL and team play.
- The Club initially requested 6 courts to support 4 home teams made up exclusively of Grand residents.
Why we’re requesting more courts:
- Member interest has exceeded the number of courts originally set aside.
- Due to high demand, the Club is requesting 6 additional courts to allow 4 more home teams (also Grand residents).
Match format
- Four home teams (A, B, C, D) with alternating home/away weeks:
- Week 1: Teams A & B host at Grand; C & D play away.
- Week 2: Teams A & B play away; C & D host at Grand.
- Each home team fields 6 players vs. 6 visiting players.
- Matches use three courts (2 Grand players vs. 2 visitors per court).
- Only 6 players from each team participate each week.
Court availability
- APPL matches run Saturdays, 6–8 p.m., January–March.
- Historically, only about 10% of courts (roughly 2–3 courts) are in use during the Saturday 6–8 p.m. winter window.
- Even with additional APPL matches, plenty of courts will remain available for member reservations.
We appreciate your questions and continued support of Grand Pickleball Club activities.
Sincerely,
Grand Pickleball Club Board of Directors
