Thank You George

George Cox Retires

Jeanne Harteau – January 1, 2023

George and his wife, Bonnie, moved into Sun City Grand in 2005.  He knew nothing about pickleball when they arrived, but he very quickly got hooked on playing the game we all love.  After becoming a member of the pickleball club George decided to get involved in the running of the club.

George served as the club Treasurer for four years from 2006 through 2009.  George also served as club President in 2011 and 2012, and as Past-President in 2013.  During the many years that George served on the Board, he spent an incredible amount of time and effort into laying the groundwork for obtaining the additional courts that the club so badly needed.  Without those efforts on George’s part, it is doubtful that we would have accomplished that tremendous task.

After George gave up his various positions on the Board, he continued to be instrumental in the running of the club.  He assisted Joe Williams in maintaining our website and court reservation system, as well as updating and maintaining the card readers at the courts that all club members use.  George also maintained the club roster, processing all new member applications and spending many hours processing all of the yearly renewals.  George has also been our club historian.  He maintains an amazing amount of club records dating back almost to the club’s inception.

George has always exhibited the qualities of leadership, management and dedication that it takes to run a club that has exploded in growth since 2003.  He has been a key contributor to the club in so many respects.

George has never sought the spotlight nor sought acknowledgement for his work.  However, you cannot look at any aspect of the club without seeing George’s handiwork, from the court reservation system, the calendar of events, the website, the roster, member registration, the quality of the courts we play on, and more. He became an invaluable resource for every club president due to his vast knowledge of the club’s history and past battles.  His knowledge, professionalism, attention to detail and work ethic is unsurpassed.

As George retires and passes the baton down the road, we have had to find multiple members to cover the responsibilities he did by himself and with ease for so many years.  I feel safe in saying that the club owes a debt of gratitude to George beyond compare.

Please join us in saying THANK YOU to George Cox for his years of service to the club and for helping to make the Grand Pickleball Club what it is today!
