Pickleball Club News and Notes

  • Membership Meeting – There have been a few members asking about when the next Pickleball Club General Membership meeting is?  The answer is Tuesday October 8, 2024, at 3PM in the Agua Fria room.  We had stated at the February meeting that February was the last meeting until next season.
  • Name Badges – Name Badges are required to be worn during club member only times like drop-in, mixers, clinics, skill level drop-in etc… The badge needs to be an official Grand Pickleball Club Badge with the current year sticker and displayed on your shirt or hat, not on your sock or in your bag or your golf cart.  The badge cannot have any colored tape over your name with a nickname printed in magic marker.  If your badge is not the way that you want it, simply go on the club’s website and under the Membership tab, order a new badge, pay the $8 and get the badge that you want.  We are all adults, and the Monitors shouldn’t have to chase us around like toddlers getting us to follow these simple rules.  In case of an emergency, badges allow others to contact our spouses or significant others that there has been an emergency.
  • Survey and Voting platform – Earlier last week, we sent out a survey using our new voting and survey software program.  The survey was about Rally scoring and we do know that it was skewed in favor of Rally scoring.  Our intent is to see what the new system can and can’t do with different types of surveys and voting. well before we use it for the 2025 Board of Director election in December.  Essentially, we are trying to see if we can break the new system.  This is why it’s important to sign up for the new program. (so far 600+ members out of 1750 total members have signed up).
  • Skill Level Drop-In – This has become an issue, especially during the Advanced Plus drop-in time at 3pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoon.  Advanced plus is meant for the skill level of 4.5 and above.  There are a lot of members who come to these drop-in times, who are not even close to being at this skill level.  If you are playing in our upcoming tournament at the 3.5 bracket, why would you feel that you belong on the advanced plus courts during the drop-in times?  If you are a 3.0 player and your spouse is a higher skill level and plays on the advanced plus courts, that does not mean that you can play with them.  Reserve a court and play with whomever you want to.  We all need to be self-aware as to what our skill level really is, and play during those times and on the correct courts both during Club Member Drop-in and Skill level Drop-in.  Playing on the wrong skill level court discourages the higher-level players from enjoying competitive games and even chases them away.  Everyone in the club deserves to enjoy themselves during Drop-in and Skill level Drop-in.

See you around the courts.
Thanks.
