NEW PICKLEBALL COURT DESIGNATIONS
Effective November 8, 2026 the courts designations listed below will become effective. Please read this entire email to learn the reasoning for the change.
As a club chartered by the SCG Community Association the Pickleball Club is mandated to follow the rules set forth in the Charter Club Policies and Procedures (CCPP) manual.
Some clubs (such as Clay Arts, Softball, Woodworking, etc.) have the portion of the Association’s common area assigned to them designated as an “Exclusive Use Common Area.” This means that residents must join that club to use the facility assigned for that club.
The CCPP designates the pickleball courts as a “Specific Use Facility.” This means that the facility is limited to being used for pickleball but must be shared between chartered club members and non-club members of the Association.
The CCPP also establishes the rules for what percentage of the courts must be made available for non-club member use. That required percentage is twenty five percent (25%). The CCPP also says that “shall mean 25% ‘over the entire day’ from scheduled start time…until the required lights out time…in providing non-club players with a ‘range’ of open play throughout the day.”
The CCPP requirement for the 25% rule has, from time to time, rendered complaints from both club members and non-club members. Some non-club members have complained about not having some courts available throughout the entire day, while club members often complain that certain courts should be available only to club members. The new court designations are designed to address both issues.
Effective November 8th courts 4, 5, 12, 13, 17 and 22 will be designated for open play (and reservable) by any Association member from 6 am until 9 pm every day. This creates availability for non-club member use at every reservable time seven days a week.
The other 16 courts will be limited each day to club activities (e.g. drop in, clinics, lessons, ladders, mixers, reservable club-member-only open play) for the same 6 am-9 pm time period.
The only exceptions will be for special events sanctioned by the Association (e.g. tournaments), in which case all courts might be reserved for a limited period of time.
