We’re reaching out to inform you about an important decision regarding the potential return of the Arizona Pickleball Players League (APPL) to our club. At the request of the Pickleball Board of Directors, representatives from APPL—including the league’s founder and the West Valley coordinator—recently presented an overview of how their program could benefit our members.
Following that presentation, the Board believes APPL could be a valuable addition to our club’s offerings. However, the final decision rests with you—the members. Your vote will determine whether or not we move forward with bringing APPL back to The Grand.
The purpose of this email is to provide clarity on what you’ll be voting on. A second email will follow shortly, containing more detailed information about APPL, as well as instructions for those interested in participating or forming a team.
As a valued member of our pickleball community, we’d like to ask for your support in bringing APPL back to The Grand! Even if you don’t plan to participate yourself, this initiative is a meaningful step forward in fostering a more vibrant, inclusive, and active membership experience.
Why support the league?
Community Building: League play fosters camaraderie, brings people together, and strengthens the bonds within our club and in the greater pickleball community. It creates opportunities for members to meet and connect in fun, structured play, with others of similar skill level.
Minimal Impact on Court Availability: While we understand concerns about court usage, it’s important to note that the league will only take place during off-peak hours—times when courts are typically underutilized.
If APPL is approved to play on our courts, the Board of Directors will determine the number of courts, days, and times allocated for league play. These decisions will be based on court availability, with priority given to preserving open play and minimizing impact on other club activities. Thanks to our current reservation system, it is easy to identify low-usage time slots, ensuring APPL play fits into our schedule with minimal disruption to the broader membership.
Supporting the league is about investing in a thriving and well-rounded club for all members—whether they choose to participate in APPL or not.
Thank you for your time and involvement. Please ask questions and become informed on this issue. Ask a board member or go on to the APPL website at arizonapickleballplayersleague.org
