Good News and More

Happy Holidays to all of our almost 1800 (1790) Pickleball Club Members. This is the most members that we have ever had, and it grows by the day.  I do believe that makes us the largest stand-alone/private club in the USA/Canada and maybe the WORLD, LOL.

The results/winners from the Grand Games Tournament are listed on The Den and on our club’s website under The Den tab.  I want to Thank all of the sponsors, players, volunteers, and most importantly, the team leaders who ran the tournament.  Verlin, Bob, John, Lana, Ross, Janice, Laura Lee, Dave, Eileen, Victor, Donny, and everyone else who stepped up to help when Susan and I were under quarantine. We raised over $3000 for St Mary’s Food Bank to help out during this holiday season.  It will surely help out those that are in need.

I was recently approached by a reporter from the Wall Street Journal to help out on an article that was being written about Pickleball, HOA’s, and sound issues faced by communities around the US and specifically what Sun City Grand has done.  I’m not sure when it will be published but will send it out when it is.

Victor Moreno will be starting his Skills and Drills on Wednesday, December 7 and each Wednesday through the end of March 2023.  They will be from Noon until 3PM on courts 1-8.  4 courts for beginners/novice and 4 courts for advanced players.  There will be slots on our websites Sign Up Genius soon.  There will be slots for 24 people in each group level.  For those of you who signed up for the December 1 and 5th skills and drills, you will have to go back in and re-sign up for the new dates.  My apologies on the mix up.

Challenge Courts- There are a lot of rumors going around about our challenge courts.  The board is/will be looking at them and making a decision on whether or not to turn them into regular Drop-In courts in the near future.

An I-Pad was found on the courts last week and if anyone is missing one, please contact me to identify it.

Dave Weinbach will be in Grand on December 1 through the first week of January and is available to teach groups or private lessons of Grand club members.  Dave is certified through CAM to teach at Grand and is a multiple times National Champion and winner of too many gold medals to count.  Dave will be spending some time going from court to court during Drop-In while he is in Grand.  Be on the lookout for “The Badger”. If you are interested in lessons, please email me and I will send it on to Dave.  On a separate note, Dave is looking at borrowing/renting/trading lessons for the use of a car while he is in Grand.  Let me know if you can help him out.

Thanks, again for the wonderful support during the tournament
Troy
