What is going on at the club: Calendar of Events

Web Site:  The club maintains a website at http://www.grandpickleball.org. The website is updated regularly and is used to communicate with members.

Club Roster: A club roster of all members is available on our website and is password protected to protect the privacy of member information, it is found under the Membership tab of our website. Please check your personal information for accuracy, if any information needs to be updated fill out the Roster Update Request form.

Name Badge:  Your name badge will be ordered and delivered to the Pavilion next to court #1. It will be in the name badge box, located on the top shelf of the stainless steel storage unit, behind the large countertop, within 5 to 10 business days. All members are required to wear their name badge during all club sponsored events. The court monitor can issue a temporary name badge for new members until their permanent badge arrives. Please remember to pick-up your badge.

Renters – Special Rules:  If you are a renter, your CAM card (Activities card) has an expiration date on the front of the card. A Pickleball Club member must be a the Grand resident in good standing, so when your lease expires, your membership is suspended until you return. If you renew your lease, or if you lease again in the Grand during the membership year, your membership will be reinstated for that year. To reinstate your membership you must complete the Roster Update Request Form located on the clubs website, under the “Membership” tab.

Swipe CAM Card Requirement:  All club members are required to check-in at the courts, before playing, by swiping their CAM cards in the card readers located in the Pavilion and both breezeways. They are under and to the side of the reservation TV monitors.
It takes up to a week before the readers are updated. If your card is not read after one week, please contact the membership Chair.
Card Reader Swipe.jpgPlease note that the Mag Strip faces away from the keypad. You can swipe down or up, but keep the card pushed all the way into the swipe slot. Please let me know if you do not get a “Thank You” voice message after swiping.

Club Meetings:  Club meeting announcements will be emailed to all members. Please keep your email address up to date because that is the best way of communicating information to the membership. Meetings are normally conducted monthly during PRIME season only.

Court Reservations:  Court times that are not set aside for Drop-In or other club functions may be reserved by any resident of the Grand.  Residents may reserve 1 court for up to 2 consecutive hours per day. You may reserve courts 7 days in advance online using our Court Reserve tool. Instructions for this tool can be found here. Court reservations are displayed on the TV monitors in the pavilion and in each breezeway.  You can reserve a court or delete a reservation using a computer or smart cell phone.  If you are not on your reserved court by 10 minutes after the hour, the court is no longer reserved and can be used by other playersPlayers unable to keep their reserved court must cancel their reservation.

Paddles: Some paddles are banned from use on our courts due to excessive noise. Check our Accepted Paddle List for a current list of acceptable paddles  Green Zone paddles are the only paddles approved for use on SCG PB Courts.  Paddles are also available for checkout at the Cimarron Center Activities Desk.

Rays Rackets offers a 10% discount for being a SCG pickleball club member and they have a demo program where you can check out 2 paddles for 2 weeks to try for $10, and if you buy a paddle, they take the $10 off of your purchase.

Balls: Balls are provided by the club for member use on the SCG courts, and are paid for by the SCG Pickleball Club. Due to noise concerns, only balls provided by the club may be used. Please do not remove the balls from the courts.

Safety: There is a red phone on the wall of the restroom building that connects directly to 911.  You need to give the address of the Cimarron center. The address is located on the bulletin board close to the phone and on our website at https://grandpickleball.org/in-case-of-emergency/.  Also, you may use a cell phone and the address of your location and court numbers are on each gate going into the courts.  We have AED’s located in the men’s and women’s restrooms by the pavilion. Assign someone to go out in the parking lot and wait for the fire truck/ambulance to arrive and that person or persons can direct the EMT’s to the person who needs help.

Court Etiquette:  Pick up all balls and return them to the buckets outside the courts in the breezeways after you have completed play. Do not enter the courts while play is in progress. Be sure to use the gates closest to the court you want to play on, when entering or exiting. Do not disrupt play by walking through multiple courts. If your ball goes onto another court, yell “Ball on your court”, so that court play stops and no one gets hurt.

Court Monitors:  The club is required to have a court monitor for all club activities. All members are required to sign up as a court monitor once per year or by volunteering a minimum of two hours for a club duty/event. Shoes:  Wear court shoes. These shoes are designed for forward and lateral movement. Do not wear street shoes, sandals, flip flops or running shoes on the courtsNo Slip on shoes are allowed.

Club Events
Club Open Drop-In:  Club Open Drop-In times are times in which club members only may drop in, without reservations and play with other club members during Drop-In time.  The time of play will be adjusted with the seasons to a time of day when the temperatures are the most comfortable.  Check the “Calendar of Events” on the website for current times at: http://grandpickleball.org/calendar-of-events/. “Depending on the season and the availability of volunteers, the club offers a variety of activities. Some of these are listed below.” Check the Calendar of Events and the Reservation program for current active activities.

Mixers:  The club hosts various Mixer sessions in the evenings. Mixer games are a round-robin type of play where members play six games (to 11 points). After each game members play with and against new players. Records are not kept of winners/losers/or points scored. These events are casual competition with a strong social aspect so that club members can meet new people and form new friendships. This event is only available during the prime season.

Note: You must arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start of a Mixer event in order to sign-in and be included in the rotation.  The current Mixer events are on the Calendar of Events and on the Reservation page on our website.

Introductory Lessons:  Introductory lessons are available for members and all Sun City Grand residents in good standing. Pickleball introductory lessons are scheduled for two hours. You must attend the full two-hour session. The basics of Pickleball will be taught including the rules, scoring, court position, and general strategy. The players will first learn the basics and then be divided up into groups and play with an experienced teacher watching and coaching throughout the playing time. The lessons are limited to 20 players per session. This event is year-round. Skill-Level Clinics:  These sessions are designed to assist students in advancing their skill of playing pickleball and their understanding of the strategy of the game. You must know the basic rules of the game to participate.

This event is announced by club email and appears on the Court Reservations and the Calendar of Events.  Clinics are scheduled for two hours.  You must attend the full two-hour session.  Players will be divided into groups of four to eight per court with an experienced instructor coaching throughout the playing time.  This event is only available during the prime season.

Skill Level Drop-in Sessions:  Skill level drop-in sessions are designed so that club members can play with other players of their own skill level. Skill level drop-in sessions are NOT a training forum for lesser skilled players to “play up”. This event is only available during the prime season.

Doubles Ladders:  The ladder program is a competition designed with a time each week when members can play others, of a similar skill level, where your score is kept week-to-week and you move up or down the “ladder” accordingly.  You must join the ladder to participate, but you do not need a partner. Your partners are determined by your place in the ladder line-up. Information about ladders is on the website at http://grandpickleball.org/pickleball-doubles-ladder/.
